John Sherman is co-chair of the International Bar Association of the IBA and was appointed chair of an IBA Working Group to submit comments to the OECD for suggested revisions to the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises. The Working Group was comprised of twenty-one IBA members from a cross-section of IBA committees. In November 2009, the Working Group submitted comments to the UK Department of Business Innovation & Skills at its request. The comments were well-received, so the OECD asked the Working Group to submit comments directly to them. The suggested revisions cover a wide variety of areas, but most prominently urge the OECD to adopt core pillars of the framework developed by Professor John Ruggie in his capacity as Special Representative to the UN Secretary General on Business and Human Rights.
