U.N. Assistant Secretary-General for Human
Rights Ivan Šimonovic, the Assistant Secretary-General
for Human Rights at the United Nations, will discuss the challenges
to policies like the new ‘Human Rights Due Diligence Policy’
(HRDDP), which he helped create in countries like the DRC and Mali
and the ‘responsibility to protect’ (R2P), including responsibility
while protecting, in Syria. Before joining the United Nations, from
2008 he held the position of Minister of Justice of Croatia and he
also served as Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,
Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York and
President of ECOSOC.
