Experimenting with Democracy: How the Internet could Transform our Republic

David Lazer, Associate Professor of Public Policy, Harvard University,
Director-Program on Networked Governance

How might the Internet transform the deliberative space encompassing citizens and their representatives? Prof. Lazer will present the culmination of several years of research on (1) how members of Congress use the Internet to communicate with the public, and (2) using field experiments in which we conducted 22 online town halls with 12 US Representatives and 1 US Senator, how members of Congress might use the Internet to enable broader deliberation about the issues of the day.
