Matt Huffman, Associate Professor of Sociology; Director,
Demographic and Social Analysis (DASA) Program, University of
California, Irvine
Although a great deal of empirical research has focused on women's
access to managerial positions, much less work addresses what
changing patterns of access mean for larger patterns of gender
inequality. Are female managers agents of change, reducing
inequality among their subordinates, or are they merely cogs in the
machine whose managerial presence has little effect on inequality?
This talk will summarize current research in this area, offer new
evidence from analyses of U.S. private sector workplaces, and
conclude with what it all may mean for diversity in work
organizations.
Lunch will be provided. An RSVP is not required as this is an open
event.
