M-RCBG seminar: Public Pensions in Bankruptcy

Introduction will be given by Thomas J. Healey, M-RCBG Senior Fellow. Amy Monahan, Professor of Law at the University of Minnesota, is a leading scholar in the interaction between state and local pensions and the legal constraints that affect them. Seven states have constitutional provisions prohibiting reductions in promised pension benefits. Michigan is one of these and the resolution of Detroit's bankruptcy creates potential conflict between state and federal law, which Prof. Monahan will explore. Lunch will be served.
