STUDY GROUP: Real-Time Politics: – How Calling Something Crazy and Putting an Exclamation Point at the End is Just as Bad

Invited guest: Josh Marshall, Talking Points Memo

Turns out, the left’s spin cycle is just as gross as the right’s. From Huffington Post to Rachel Maddow’s show, stories get twisted, blown out of proportion and become campaign fodder. We’ll trace the origin of some of those lefty campaign rumors and show how, like a game of telephone, the facts were distorted along the way. This will be a crash course in media literacy, since it’s not easy to know who to trust in the partisan political ecochamber. This session also will highlight the good news, including a focus on who is doing it right.
