STUDY GROUP: The Washington Ecosystem: The Rise of the Tea Party and Life as a Freshman Member of Congress in the New Republi

Guest Speaker: Congressman Michael Grimm (R-NY) Before 2007 few Americans had ever heard of the Tea (Taxed Enough Already) Party; by November 2008 citizen participants from across the country raised their voices and flexed their muscles to wrest control of the House of Representatives from the Democrats while capturing several seats in the United States Senate and placing that chamber on the verge of a Republican takeover in the 2012 election.Representative Michael Grimm from New York City will join the seminar to discuss how he was swept into office through vigorous support from the Tea Party along with 77 other freshmen Members of Congress.  He will offer his unique insight into the viability of the Tea Party movement and discuss how they have changed the “business as usual” culture that persisted in the Washington Ecosystem prior to the 2008 elections.Prior to his election to Congress, Grimm served as a First Responder on 9/11 – a decision that led him to enlist in the United States Marine Corps and later serve as an undercover agent on Wall Street where he successfully fought corruption as a member of the Financial Fraud Squad.
