The U.S. Foreign Service at Work in Africa: A public address by Ambassador Ronald McMullen
Ronald McMullen, former United States Ambassador to Eritrea (2007-2010) and now Diplomat-in-Residence at the University of Texas at Austin will deliver a public address on US foreign policy toward Africa as part of the Future of Diplomacy Project's international speaker series.
A member of the Senior Foreign Service with over twenty-eight years of diplomatic experience, Ambassador Ronald McMullen has held a number of significant posts within the State Department. Most recently, Ambassador McMullen served as United States Ambassador to Eritrea (2007-2010). Prior to his appointment, he was the Deputy Chief of Mission in Rangoon, Burma (2002-2005), where his duties included working closely with Nobel laureate and democracy activist Aung Sang Suu Kyi.
In addition to his service in Burma and Eritrea, Ambassador McMullen has held posts in the Fiji Islands, South Africa, Gabon, Sri Lanka, and the Dominican Republic. He also directed the Office of Afghanistan and Pakistan in the Bureau of International Narcotic and Law Enforcement Affairs.
