Cambridge, MA, – Lt. Gen. Romeo Dallaire, author of the best-selling book “Shake Hands With the Devil,” will be the 2005 Graduation Speaker at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. His address will be delivered before pending graduates and their families at 12 noon, June 8, at the John F. Kennedy Jr. Forum, 79 JFK Street, Cambridge.

Dallaire, who was recently appointed to the Canadian Parliament, began his military career in the Canadian Army in 1964. In October 1993, he was appointed commander of the UN mission in Rwanda. During his time there he witnessed a humanitarian disaster as more than 800,000 people were killed in 100 days, despite his best efforts to summon international intervention. He retired from the Army in 2000.

Dallaire’s speech will be open to the press. Journalists wishing to cover the address should contact the Kennedy School Communication’s Office at (617) 495-1115 to reserve space on the press riser.
