All new financial transaction processors and financial managers should take financial systems courses developed and offered by Harvard's Center for Workplace Development - listed under Financial. 

CWD courses recommended for all financial users
CWD offers the below courses monthly.  They provide the necessary background for responsible financial transaction processing, including web voucher approvals.  All new users must attend the OFS Introduction to HKS Financial Systems, initially after getting access to the systems, and the courses listed below in order to successfully process A/P transactions. 

  • Understanding Harvard Chart of Accounts

  • Intro to Web Voucher

  • Ethics, Accountability, and Internal Controls

CWD courses recommended for financial managers
In addition to the above courses, financial managers are required to take the below CWD courses.  They are offered periodically and provide important information on accounting policies and procedures at Harvard, specifically with a focus on Harvard's use of the chart of accounts.

  • Intro to Harvard Accounting

  • Advanced Harvard Accounting

  • Introduction to the General Ledger

 Training on software applications such as Microsoft Access or Excel--useful for financial reporting and analysis--is also offered through the Center for Workplace Development Employees may enroll for financial and HR systems courses directly in PeopleSoft Self-service. Finally, there are many useful on-line resources, including forms, FAQs, how-to's, and accounting policies which can be directly accessed at ABLE and the Harvard Office of the Controller web site.

 

The FMG (Financial Managers Group) calendar contains OFS and CWD training dates, FMG meetings, special training, and monthly closing schedule information.
