Boston
Mobilization - Empowering grassroots movements for
peace and justice since 1977!
In
2004
Boston Mobilization
had a vibrant youth voter project called "WeVote!"
During 2004, We Vote! worked to inform, register,
and motivate young people to vote in the
Boston
area. We created educational packets and
informational teach-ins to foster understanding of
governmental structure and the importance of voting.
And we sponsored some awesome events, like Van Votes
where local Hip Hop and Spoken word Artists toured
the city in a van covered with graffiti, registering
people to vote. We worked in coalition with many
different local and national organizations and
student groups and had a lot of fun in the process.
Everyone was saying that the youth in this country
don't vote, but we DO vote! We are fighting for our
lives and our future, and voting is one of the tools
at our disposal.
Now it's time to make WeVote! a permanent part of
Boston Mobilization
. In an area where there are over 200 colleges,
youth should rule! Or at least have a say! The
midterm elections are coming up, we have a
gubernatorial race that is drawing national
attention, Boston is now a "minority/
majority" city that just elected a forth person
of color to the City Council under the banner of
"team unity", and there are many exciting
third party ballot and campaign reform initiatives
on the ballot.
