Catholic Charities Refugee and Immigration Services is committed to

providing tools and services to help refugees, asylees and Cuban/Haitian

entrants reach self-sufficiency and advocating for their basic needs and

protection.

We seek committed individuals interested in assisting refugees

with transition to their new lives in the US.  Volunteers are needed to

welcome refugees to their new homes, offer cultural and community

orientation, assist with learning the public transportation system,

teach English (no formal teaching background requ ired!) and basic

literacy skills, support parents in child care, prepare children for

preschool, assist with interviewing skills and job placement, and

completion of legal immigration applications. 

• Demonstrated sensitivity to cultural and linguistic differences

• Flexibility, patience and a sense of humor

• Ability to work with people of lower English speaking abilities

• Commitment to confidentiality

• Complete of agency Volunteer Application

• Attend mandatory orientation session and specific on-the-job training

•  Commit to a minimum of four hours of service per week

• Must be at least 18 years of age

• Must agree to a criminal background check (CORI)

• Submit 2 letters of reference
