Internship Description:

Slingshot: Training for Corporate Campaigning - A summer internship program of Corporate Accountability International

This is a skills-building internship program, in which interns will take on significant projects to advance Corporate Accountability International's mission, primarily focusing on the Think Outside the Bottle Campaign, challenging corporate control of water. The projects will be coupled with weekly training sessions with a variety of staff members and guest trainers. Sample training topics include action planning, campaign research, media outreach, fundraising, recruitment, direct pressure tactics, and many others. The summer will culminate in an intensive week-long training that will propel interns into organizing Think Outside the Bottle campaign activities on campus or in communities throughout the year.

FOCUS AREAS: Every intern will be placed in one of the following focus areas:

ORGANIZING ASSISTANT: Works most closely with the National Organizers. Responsibilities will include:

  • Organizing activists at the local, regional, national or international level
  • Outreach to targeted constituencies to get people involved in the Think Outside the Bottle Campaign: www.ThinkOutsidetheBottle.org and to develop Corporate Accountability International's core of activists.
  • Responding to requests for information
  • Designing and layout of organizing materials MEDIA &

COMMUNICATIONS ASSISTANT: Works with our Communications Team. Responsibilities will include:

  • Updating and organizing on social networking sites: Facebook, MySpace, YouTube, etc.
  • General outreach to targeted media and blogs
  • Tracking and monitoring reporters and developments in the issues
  • Generating letters to the editor and other written media outreach
  • Internet research
  • Database maintenance
  • Graphics and web editing

DEVELOPMENT/MEMBER RELATIONS ASSISTANT: Works with our team of Fundraisers, who organize members across the US to support Corporate Accountability International's important work. Responsibilities will include:

  • Carrying out and tracking our member outreach and fundraising progress.
  • Coordinating and carrying out several aspects of an all-staff phone bank.
  • Assisting with design and coordination of special mailings to specific member groups.
  • Conducting philanthropy research and generating reports.
  • Communicating with members and responding to member information requests.
  • Supporting administrative systems, including updating member records and filing.

RESEARCH ASSISTANT: Works with the Research Team. Responsibilities will include:

  • Compiling and analyzing information for our campaigns
  • Monitoring business publications
  • Assisting with research reports, utilizing library and internet skills to gather needed information

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT: Works with the Finance and Administrative Director. Responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with financial documents and systems management
 
Qualifications:  

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated commitment to corporate accountability and/or progressive social change
  • Highly effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Organizational skills and the ability to juggle several tasks while meeting deadlines
  • Good political analysis
  • Experience in a high-energy campaign or non-profit setting preferable
  • Commitment to bringing the campaign back to your campus or community
  • Able to commit to the timeframe of the internship
 
Dates:  

Start Date: June 2, 2008

Length of Internship: 8-10 weeks Hours: 30-40/week

 
Paid/Unpaid:   Compensation: $1,000 stipend for a ten week commitment; Will receive training from experienced staff.
