Organization Description:

SNAP PAC, Students for a New American Politics political action committee, is a federal PAC working to provide stipends for as many students as possible to work as full time grassroots organizers on progressive Congressional Campaigns for 10-12 weeks during Summer 2006. As students, we bring the energy and enthusiasm needed to promote democratic participation in communities across the country and to strengthen the progressive voice in Washington.  For more information, visit our website: http://www.snappac.org.

Internship Description:

Students for a New American Politics PAC will send students from campuses across the country to work as full time grassroots organizers on progressive congressional campaigns in summer 2006. By providing candidates with fully trained, enthusiastic, and cost-free organizers, we will help provide the margin of victory in tight races. And by placing talented students in positions of responsibility within key campaigns, we will train and inspire the next generation of political activists.

Students for a New American Politics PAC is dedicated to providing scholarships for students who want to work on progressive campaigns for the summer, giving priority to students who have demonstrated financial need. All of the students that SNAP PAC supports are students who would not be able to participate fully in progressive campaigns were it not for receiving a summer scholarship.

On each campaign, SNAP PAC participants will work with the lead field organizer in developing and implementing the candidate's field plan.  SNAP PAC lead organizers will maintain regular contact with program participants to ensure their experiences are productive, and to respond to any problems that may arise over the course of the summer.

At the conclusion of the program, SNAP PAC will provide participants with the resources and support to stay involved in key races through the end of the 2006 election cycle. SNAP PAC will work with graduating students to help them continue their involvement with their campaign through November

Qualifications:   Participants chosen through this process will be students with high levels of enthusiasm but varying levels of experience.
Dates:   Summer
Time Commitment:   Participants will work for their candidate for 10 - 12 weeks, at a minimum of 40 hours a week

Credit and Perks:   Participants will be housed with community members to minimize costs.

Participants will be paid a summer stipend of up to $2,500 from SNAP PAC depending on need.
