Company Description: Project HEALTH works to break the link between poverty and poor health by mobilizing college students to provide sustained public health interventions in partnership with urban medical centers, universities, and community organizations.  Project HEALTH volunteers run clinic-based help desks to connect families with community resources and programs to provide children facing chronic illness with the skills and knowledge to take care of their health.
Job Description:

Project HEALTH is seeking an experienced, entrepreneurial, passionate leader to serve as the Boston Site Director.  The Site Director will direct the site’s seven public health programs, including building community and clinic collaborations, providing leadership and training to the undergraduate volunteers, and developing innovative solutions to address the most pressing needs of the low-income communities we serve. The Site Director should understand the links between poverty and health and between direct service and advocacy.

Site Development

  • Oversee development of quality public health programs consistent with the Project HEALTH model;

  • Supervise Project HEALTH Boston Youth Programs Manager in operation of programs for children with chronic medical conditions;

  • Identify strategies to recruit student volunteers committed to philosophy, goals and objectives of these programs;

  • Actively cultivate and oversee volunteer leadership for programs, including identifying opportunities for volunteer involvement at the program, site, and national levels;

  • Provide ongoing training and support to programs in which volunteers assist low-income families in accessing appropriate public benefits and community resources in clinic-based settings; and

  • Develop and implement (1) evaluation tools to measure program performance, and (2) data-driven program improvement strategies, in collaboration with Project HEALTH volunteers/staff and key external partners.

Collaboration and Relationship-building

  • Build strategic alliances with community leaders, nonprofit organizations, and government agencies, including identifying key partners to provide volunteer training, collaborate on policy initiatives, and extend the impact of Project HEALTH programs;

  • Advocate for Project HEALTH programs and volunteers in hospital and community settings;

  • Cultivate relationships with staff of hospital and community partners, including physicians, nurses, social workers, lawyers, and others;

  • Ensure accountability to key organizational partners; and

  • Develop and engage the Boston Advisory Board to provide strategic direction for Boston site.

Fundraising and Resource Identification

  • Collaborate with Project HEALTH National Office, Boston Medical Center Development Office, and Boston Advisory Board Members in identifying and securing local funding through corporate and foundation grants, individual giving, and other sources;

  • Draft and manage site budget; and

  • Assist in national and multi-site Project HEALTH fundraising initiatives.

National Strategy

  • Support communication and sharing of best practices among Project HEALTH sites

  • Work collaboratively with the Executive Director and other national staff to implement Project HEALTH-wide initiatives and organizational strategies, and ensure those strategies are responsive to site and local needs. 

 
Qualifications:  

A Project HEALTH Site Director must be:

  • A dynamic, passionate leader with the ability to inspire volunteers and work well with collaborators

  • A strategic thinker and an entrepreneur

  • Able to learn complex policy/public health systems

  • Capable of integrating undergraduates' ownership of dynamic programs with the long-term vision necessary to deliver quality programs

  • Flexible, open-minded, and collaborative

A Project HEALTH Site Director must also have:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Strong capacity to work effectively in and with diverse communities

  • A Bachelor’s degree

  • A Master’s Degree in Public Health, Public Policy, or Social Work (preferred) or two years’ community experience

  • Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and PowerPoint)

Salary and Benefits:

 

This position has a minimum commitment of two years.  Salary range is $35-40,000 plus benefits.
