Company Description: The Sacramento Housing Alliance engages in grass roots organizing, outreach and policy advocacy to promote safe, accessible and affordable housing, and promote greater opportunities for low income people and the homeless. SHA is a membership organization that includes affordable housing developers, homeless service providers, environmental organizations, civil rights advocates and other interest groups.
Job Description:

In support of SHA’s mission and strategic plan, the Program Director will work with the Executive Director to manage advocacy campaigns for increased access to safe, affordable and accessible housing in the Sacramento region through efforts such as inclusionary housing policies and housing element compliance. Activities include coalition building, policy analysis, education, outreach, and development.

Advocacy - Coordinate and participate in the public policy advocacy efforts of the organization, including:

• Provide vision and leadership for a local, broad-based campaign to expand affordable and accessible housing resources.

• Recruit and organize coalition members and implement advocacy campaign plans.

• Monitor local policy related to affordable housing, homelessness and renter's rights.

• Develop and maintain strong contacts with the media.

Education

• Provide the regional community with information about the need and benefits of affordable housing.

• Edit, produce and oversee distribution of quarterly newsletters.

• Produce fact sheets, advocacy alerts, press releases and educational materials.

• Coordinate forums on affordable housing and inclusionary housing ordinances and other issues of importance to the affordable housing, community and organizations representing homeless persons, seniors, and persons with disabilities.

Development

• Assist with grant proposal writing, reporting, and evaluation.

• Assist in the coordination of fundraising and outreach events, including preparing materials, invites, and event details

 
Qualifications:  

Preferred Attributes

• Prior experience with policy advocacy or community organizing.

• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.

• Sense of humor

• Sensitivity to low-income and homeless people and people of diverse backgrounds.

• Prior experience overseeing and directly implementing specific programs including coordinating events.

• Experience supervising staff and volunteers.

• Frequent local travel required, including travel in Sacramento, Yolo, Placer and El Dorado Counties. Occasional out of area travel required. Valid driver’s license, insurance and reliable transportation is necessary.

• Willingness to attend evening and weekend meetings and events as needed.

Salary and Benefits:   This is a full-time salaried position with medical and dental benefits - $33,000 - 36,000 annually
