HeadCount is a non-partisan, not-for-profit organization devoted to voter registration and participation in democracy. We were created in 2004 by a group of artists, music industry professionals and fans, all determined to make sure the live music community is well-represented at the polls.

Job Description:

HeadCount is looking for a true leader who will help transform the organization from being an all volunteer-run operation to a professionally managed, well-funded and sustainable entity that will register more than 100,000 voters in 2008 and evolve further into a community organizing and action network. The executive director must spearhead a seven-figure fundraising effort while also supervising a small fulltime staff and larger network of volunteers and contract employees. He or she will be charged with executing a detailed action plan while improving and further developing HeadCount's strategy and tactics. Reporting to HeadCount Board of Directors and co-Chairs.

 
Qualifications:  

Requirements:

  • Five to ten years in non-profit fundraising and program management

  • A proven fundraising and development track record, with a history of attracting major philanthropic donations from high net-worth individuals, while also generating successful grant applications and creating other revenue producing initiatives

  • Management experience, including managing and organizing volunteers

  • The ability to articulate the vision of the HeadCount organization

  • Comfort in working in a non-traditional, grassroots environment with a "let's build it from the ground up" mentality

  • Strong communication and writing skills, with a creative vision as to how to create interest in voting and encouraging young people to participate in the political process

  • Commitment to executing a detailed action plan with a high level of personal accountability, while also shaping an action plan to reflect individual vision and a constantly evolving set of ideas.

  • An innate sense of how to organize grassroots operations

  • A general understanding of the live music community and related industry

  • The ability to inspire, lead, overcome obstacles and achieve at the highest level

  • Direct experience and knowledge of voter registration operations (a bonus, but not required)
