Doctors Council SEIU is the nation’s oldest and largest union for physicians and dentists. Doctors Council is affiliated with SEIU. We represent the doctors who work in public and private facilities. Doctors Council SEIU’s long and rich history of advocating for union doctors was added to in recent years with organizing victories that led to many new first contracts. With the successful conclusion of these contracts, we are now a union that is approximately half public sector and half private sector. Our increased membership gives us greater strength to work together for our goals. Doctors Council SEIU is also affiliated with the National Doctors Alliance (NDA), SEIU, whereby we represent doctors throughout the United States. Recent activity includes Illinois, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Job Description:

Doctors Council SEIU seeks a dynamic, talented individual to serve as Lead Organizer.

The Lead Organizer will coordinate on aspects of the organizing program, developing and implementing major external organizing  campaigns. The Lead Organizer will also recruit member activists. Evening and weekend work will be involved and this position may require travel throughout the country and working in other states for various lengths of time.

Develop and implement overall campaign goals by leading worker organizing and coordinating with research, communications, political and legal aspects of the campaign. Duties include leading and training staff; planning, implementing, evaluating campaign strategy and tactics; providing vision and leadership to staff, members and non-union workers.
 
Qualifications:   Experience:
  • Experience running large organizing campaigns, preferably in healthcare, or with professional employees
  • Have demonstrated success at providing direction and leadership to other organizers
  • 5-7 years of direct organizing experience preferred
  • A knowledge of union organizing practices and principles and thorough knowledge of labor laws, in both private and public sectors
  • The ability to write organizing plans and grant proposals
  • A strong working knowledge of data base programs and the ability to develop an organizing data base
  • Budgetary and fiscal experience
  • Sensitivity to political nuances within a labor organization
  • Extensive experience working with coalitions
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and project management skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. Computer literate and ability to write leaflets and newsletters
  • Maintains trust and confidence of multiple levels of union leadership
  • Self-starter with an ability to work with supervision
  • Driver’s license and insurance required
Salary and Benefits:   Salary depends on experience. Excellent full benefit package includes 100% employer paid self and dependent medical and dental, as well as 100% employer paid defined benefit pension plan.
