Company Description: ONE Lowell: Building a New American Community

Since 2001, ONE Lowell has been actively working within the immigrant and refugee community to increase civic participation and political empowerment.

Job Description: The One Lowell Voting Project will utilize an organizing campaign to educate, inform, and empower the immigrant community in Lowell to take action on the issues of immigration reform and changing the At-Large, Winner take All voting system in Lowell in order to promote increased minority representation.

The Senior Community Organizer will oversee this campaign.

Job responsibilities:

• Outreach and mobilize Lowell’s immigrant and refugee communities.

• Keep abreast of current legislation affecting immigrants and refugees.

• Organize minority communities around changing the Lowell voting system.

• Make presentations to local community groups.

• Organize outings and events.

• Participate in relevant committees and community groups.

• Develop outreach materials such as brochures, informational packets, and leaflets.

• Develop educational material relevant to the project

• Develop and update contact databases.

• Send reminders and updates to clients and constituents via phone, mail, fax and e-mail.

• Assist with special events.

• And other tasks assigned by the Executive Director.

 
Qualifications:   Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree preferred.

• Passionate commitment to social justice and community service.

• Good English language oral and written communication skills, with additional verbal fluency in Spanish or Khmer preferred.

• Knowledge of Lowell and its communities.

• Ability to work across different ethnic communities.

• Significant community organizing experience.

• Willingness to work flexible hours including evening and weekends.

• Excellent organizational and leadership skills.

• Ability to manage time efficiently, meet deadlines, work independently as well as within a team structure.

• Proficient with Windows based word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and email/internet.

• Excellent interpersonal skills.

• Respect for and ability to work with a diverse staff.
