SEIU, Local 1991, the largest Nurse Union in Florida , is a progressive hospital union representing over 4000 Registered Nurses, physicians and healthcare professionals in South Florida .  Following recent restructuring, the local is expanding their programs and activities and seek talented, enthusiastic, experienced staff to compliment our current employees   Local 1991 bargains and enforces contracts as well as taking an active role in protecting patients and the profession through the legislative process.

Job Description: The Executive Director administers the day-to-day affairs of the Union and is responsible for the representation and healthcare programs of the Union .  Such responsibilities include:
  • Development, administration and oversight of a multi million dollar budget

  • All responsibilities related to supervision of staff

  • Staff and leadership development programs

  • Oversight of representation, negotiations, internal and external organizing campaigns and programs, political and community activities, communications and our Nurse program

  • Strategic planning and plan implementation

  • Member empowerment programs

  • Coordination with International Union and other resources

The Executive Director reports to the Local elected Executive Board.

 
Qualifications:   EXPERIENCE:
  • A strong commitment to organizing and empowering workers

  • Ability to build and work as part of a team within a racially and culturally diverse membership

  • Strong organizational and administrative experience and strategic planning experience

  • Experience coordinating organizing campaigns, representing workers, supervising staff and implementing leadership development programs

  •  Experience in healthcare, preferably acute care hospitals and preferably with RNs

  •  Healthcare negotiations experience, preferably as chief negotiator

  •  Experience as a rank and file activist is desirable
