NEW REPORT: Controlling the Cost of Municipal Health Insurance: Lessons from Springfield A report issued by the Edward J. Collins Jr. Center for Public Management at UMass Boston's McCormack School of Policy Studies and the Rappaport Institute documents the millions of dollars in annual savings achieved by the City of Springfield resulting from the decision of the Finance Control Board to transfer the City’s employees to the Commonwealth’s Group Insurance Commission (GIC). The report was authored by Robert L. Carey, an expert on Massachusetts health insurance costs. (MORE)

INFORMATION SESSIONS FOR THE RAPPAPORT INSTITUTE PUBLIC POLICY SUMMER FELLOWSHIP ARE TAKING PLACE NOW: Are you a graduate student who will continue their academic studies in the 2010-11 and would like to spend the summer working at a state or local government agency and receive a $7000 stipend? If so, attend one of our information sessions which will be held throughout Boston this fall. Rappaport Institute staff will be at Northeastern University on Tuesday, November 10 from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. at the Curry Student Center, 342 Huntington Avenue. Rappaport Institute Staff will also be at the Harvard Kennedy School Summer Internship Fair on Monday, November 23 from 2 - 5:30 p.m. on the 5th floor of the Taubman Building at 15 Eliot Street. 2009 RAPPAPORT PUBLIC POLICY FELLOWS The 2009 Rappaport Institute Public Policy Fellows were chosen from five schools to participate in our 10-week summer fellowship. These students will work at state or local agencies for twelve weeks during the summer. (MORE) Antoniya Owens, a 2009 Summer Fellow, was featured on the Harvard Kennedy School's website, in "Student Researches the Effect of English Language Education on ESL Children." The fellows program was also featured on the Harvard Kennedy School's website in October, "Rappaport Fellows Think Globally, Act Locally"
