Arun Agrawal is a Visiting Scholar at Harvard’s Center for International Development and an Associate Professor at the University of Michigan's School of Natural Resources and the Environment. His research focuses on the political economy of conservation and development. He teaches environmental politics. He publishes on indigenous knowledge, community-based conservation, decentralization of environmental policies, and environmental identities. Research under way includes: a comparative study of environmental policy decentralization (forestry and wildlife) in the developing world; the relationship between environmental equity and sustainable governance; and investigating the role of institutions in enhancing sustainable governance of forests in the Himalaya.
