Research
KATJA PATZWALDT studied political science, history and regional development of Eastern Europe at the Berlin Free University in Germany, the Russian State University of Humanities and the Moscow Institute of International Relations. After graduating, she received a research, work and travel grant from the Robert Bosch Foundation and the German Studienstiftung and participated in a post-graduate programme of international affairs. During this time, she worked in research management, migration policy and employment policy and research for UNESCO, the ILO and the World Bank.
After the programme she entered the International Graduate School in Sociology of the University of Bielefeld, and started with PhD work at the Institute of Science and Technology Studies, the subject being "Organising Political Legitimacy with the Help of Scientific Policy Advice" in the case of German labour market reforms 1998-2005. Katja stayed at the Kennedy School in spring 2006, benefiting greatly from the discussions with Professor Jasanoff and the group of doctoral and post-doc fellows about "games of legitimacy", political decision-making and societal developments.
