Research

MELIKE ŞAHINOL joined the Harvard STS program as a Ph.D. candidate of sociology and a stipendiary fellow of the Postgraduate Program for Bioethics with the Interdepartmental Centre for Ethics in the Sciences and Humanities at the University of Tuebingen (Germany). In 2008, a Ph.D. fellowship was awarded to her in the project "TRANSDISS - disciplinary research in transdisciplinarity," which is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. Her current research focuses on the action strategies and dynamics of the neuro-scientific and neuro-technological innovation process, in particular the development of brain-computer-interfaces and implants.

She has a particular interest in the area of science and technology research, especially in the different perspectives of the implication, application and effects of available technologies and innovations in diffusion.

She taught an undergraduate course on "The sociological view of technology: about the mechanization of society, about cyborgs and other socio-technical constructs" (2009).

As a graduate in the social sciences, major sociology, minor political science and psychology at the University of Duisburg-Essen (Germany). Melike completed her degree and final thesis in social sciences of technology and innovation.
