StudioKSG technicians can set up a variety of equipment for your class and conference needs at a location of your choosing. Some of the equipment StudioKSG offers includes microphones, LCD projectors, audio tape players and recorders, laptop computers, audio and video conferencing equipment, video cameras, 35mm slide projectors, and CD/DVD players. If you'd like to see a complete list of our available equipment go to our online media request form. We offer training on all our
equipment so the end user will feel comfortable using the technology during
their event. Please

equipment questions you may have. To guarantee support, requests for media equipment and services must be made at least 3 days in advance. Classes and events at the KSG can be videotaped for later viewing. Clients have a choice of having the video camera set up with our technician running it, or having the video camera set up and then run by one of the their event staff. At the conclusion of the event, the tapes are immediately available to the requester to do with as they please. Standard videotaping sessions are recorded onto VHS format tapes, but the digital MiniDV format is also available if desired. To request the a videotaping session, go to our online media request form. The digital age is upon us and the ability to convert, or capture, video or audio footage into the computer opens possibilities that many of us never thought possible. StudioKSG has the ability to capture source material from a video or audio tape and burn the material to a CD-R or DVD-R. StudioKSG technicians capture video footage from VHS or miniDV via firewire connection. The footage can then be converted into any one of a variety of different formats, including mpeg, mpeg-2 for DVD authoring, Real Media, Quicktime, and AVI format. These files can then be delivered on a CD-R or DVD-R. The Real Media format also allows
the content to be broadcast live over the internet for a mass audience, referred
to as webcasting.
For more information on capturing or webcasting, please
contact us. The StudioKSG video streaming service is a fully managed service offering encoding, storage, and delivery of video content. Source material can be transmitted via fiber optic line from the Kennedy School campus to any other similarly equipped location. This allows local productions to be transmitted to any national destination capable of receiving fiber optic transmissions. The source material can be sent directly from our control room in a variety of formats: VHS, miniDV/DV, Beta/BetaSP, DVCAM, DVD, and more. The destination site must contact our fiber optic service supplier for information and instructions on receiving our signal. StudioKSG offers full in-house production services for video, audio, and multimedia projects that are associated with material directly related to the Kennedy School. Our production team works with you while taking care of all creative and technical aspects of your project, including such things as production planning, studio and remote location shooting, post-production editing, and more. Technicians use the industry-standard Avid software package along with other industry-wide software packages to bring your project to life. We encourage clients to make an appointment to go over any questions they may have. StudioKSG allows faculty and staff of the Kennedy School to borrow, or sign-out, select pieces of equipment for use with KSG events. Simply bring your valid Harvard ID and autograph the sign-out sheet and you can take the equipment with you. Audio tape recorders, 35mm slide projectors, digital still cameras, VHS camcorders, and LCD projectors are available for a sign-out period of one week. If the equipment is not returned at its scheduled time, a per-day late fee will be charged to your account until the equipment is returned. Availability on equipment for sign-out is limited, and is on a first-come first-serve basis. No equipment should be removed from the Kennedy School premises without prior consent. StudioKSG can duplicate audio and video tapes, as well as CDs and DVDs. Video tapes, CDs, and DVDs have a maximum of 1 copy per tape/disc. Our technicians can duplicate a variety of tape formats, including VHS, MiniDV, and some international tape formats. Audio tape and CD duplication can be done at high speed, requiring only 15 minutes to complete. Video tape duplication takes place in real-time - a 2 hour video tape would take 2 hours to copy, and so on. All duplication must be within the copyright restrictions of the source material. We cannot duplicate copyrighted material without proper permission. For free single-copy VHS duplication, clients can duplicate tapes in the KSG Library at no charge. If you require any blank media for a class or event, StudioKSG may be able to assist you. We offer blank VHS tapes, MiniDV tapes, audio tapes, CD-Rs, and DVD-Rs for purchase through our office. Please go to Media Supplies in the GENERAL PRICING section for more details. StudioKSG is offering free VoIP audio conferencing for classrooms and conference rooms at the Kennedy School. The VoIP phones work just like the regular phones and the quality is excellent. Please see below for locations where free VoIP is available. Locations: If VoIP is not available at your location, analog equipment will be used. Clients will have to contact Facilities at 5-1306 to set up an analog telephone line (Facilities requires two weeks notice for this service). Incoming calls will only be billed for the setup of the equipment. Hourly rates for outgoing calls are billed through the Facilities department. StudioKSG is only responsible for setting up the equipment. For your next Audio conferencing event, please make sure to submit a Media Services request with three days advance notice: http://www.ksg.harvard.edu/studioksg/mrf.htm
There are two types of video conference calls - IP and ISDN. IP calls are made over the internet, where ISDN calls are dialed out over digital phone lines. StudioKSG has the ability to make and receive IP calls from almost any location equipped with an Ethernet jack. ISDN calls can be made and received in L140, L150, L230, L280, L382, and our in-house video conference room only. What's the real-world
difference between IP and ISDN? Our in-house video conference room can seat up to five people. If your group is larger than five people, the video conference will have to take place in another room that must be booked by your group - Littauer 280 is the only other room that is permanently equipped with a video conferencing unit and recommended as the first larger-venue location to look into. Other rooms can be equipped with a portable unit as needed. In many locations the video conference can be video taped for later viewing. If desired by the client, our technicians can demonstrate how this service works prior to the client making an official request. This demonstration allows the client to see how the equipment works and what they can expect the environment to be like if they were to coordinate their own video conference. Video conference services are available M-F 8:00am-8:00pm. No weekends or holidays! Thinking about coordinating a video conference? Be sure to check out some helpful tips. Clients are responsible for the actual room reservation and should provide StudioKSG with information on the remote site's technical contact when filling out the request form. A connectivity test must be performed between StudioKSG and the remote site before any video conference can take place. At least one week notice is needed in order to assure the success of any video conference. For information on pricing on our video conferencing services, please visit the PRICING page. To schedule a video conference, go to our online video conference request form. Some examples of video conferencing: The
