Gender Course Guide

GENDER AT HARVARD

The study of gender at Harvard exists across the University; a scholarly thread woven through disciplines and degree programs that connects students, faculty and scholars from all corners of the university community. The Women and Public Policy Program at the Harvard Kennedy School; the Committee on Degrees in Studies of Women, Gender and Sexuality within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences; the Harvard College Women's Center; the Women, Gender and Health Interdisciplinary Concentration at the Harvard School of Public Health; the Women’s Studies in Religion Program at the Harvard Divinity School—these are all testaments to Harvard’s continuing commitment to understanding the complex role of gender in society. Across Harvard’s ten schools, we are approaching gender through the frameworks of art, culture, health, history, law, literature, politics, public policy, religion; creating a rich academic landscape for the engaged scholar. This edition of the Harvard University Gender Course Guide serves as a roadmap to the University’s vast interdisciplinary approach to gender studies and an information hub for the opportunities and resources available.

THE GUIDE

This ninth edition of the Harvard University Gender Course Guide is designed to enable students, faculty, and staff interested in learning about gender to explore gender from a variety of disciplines. The guide was designed to help identify programs, courses, and resources relating to the study of women and gender throughout the University. It lists courses across the University with a primary or secondary focus on gender by interdisciplinary topic. Courses are categorized by topic based on information derived primarily from University registrar course listings and program websites. We attempt to be as inclusive and thorough as possible, but we are aware of the possibility that inaccuracies or omissions may inadvertently exist. It is also important to note that some schools only provide partial spring course listings. Please contact the schools or programs directly for complete course listings and cross-registration guidelines. Full course descriptions can be found in the various schools’ course catalogs or on course websites.
