How much funding does the NGK Fellowship provide?
The program will provide a $5,000 grant for the summer.

Who is eligible?
Any current Harvard Kennedy School student.

What type of work will be supported?
Students must apply to work with the women peace builder. Students are welcome to design specific projects with the peace builder, but such a project must be in keeping with the student’s level of academic and real-world training. Possible examples include but are in no way limited to data collection, materials and strategy development, and program design and implementation. It is the student’s responsibility to identify their potential host peace builder and negotiate an arrangement.

What are the host organization's responsibilities?
The sponsoring organization must agree to provide the student with supervision and direction. The organization must provide administrative support and resources as necessary to complete the project and, if relevant, travel expenses other than for the initial travel to and from the project site.

What are the WAPPP NGK Fellows' responsibilities?
Each Cultural Bridge Fellow is responsible for creating a contact list of at least twenty individuals to place on a listserv to which they will email when they have completed writing a weekly blog update during their summer fellowship. Such updates can be conversational in nature and should include an overview of the week's activities. WAPPP should be included on the contact list and should receive all listserv emails. Upon their return to the Kennedy School, students will give in-depth presentations to members of their blog community, highlighted with pictures, mementos and other souvenirs from their experiences.

Can a student accept additional remuneration from the organization?
The student can accept additional remuneration, but only up to $3,000. The student must report the organization's willingness to supplement WAPPP's payment at the time he or she applies for the internship.

How will the $5,000 be paid?
The $5,000 payment will be given to the selected student prior to the start of the internship.

How will the students be selected?
Students should submit a written application that contains:

  1. A description of the proposed project with an anticipated start and end date.
  2. A one-page letter summarizing why this opportunity will benefit both the student and the woman peace builder.
  3. A copy of the student’s curriculum vitae.
  4. A recommendation letter from a member of the Kennedy School faculty, a former professor, or a previous employer.

A committee will review the applications and determine the awards.

When is the application deadline?

The application period will close on Friday, March 6, 2009 at 12pm.  Recipients will be notified of the status of their application no later than Friday, March 27, 2009.
