Anne Boyajian is a mission-driven nonprofit executive leader with nearly 20 years of experience in Washington, DC. She is founder and principal at Iona Advisory, where she advises clients on human rights and democracy policy, advocacy and legislative strategy, institutional leadership, organizational transition, coalition-building, stakeholder engagement, and fundraising.
She held a variety of senior leadership roles over more than a decade at Freedom House, most recently serving as president, leading the organization during a period of significant geopolitical complexity. Prior to that, she spent nearly eight years on Capitol Hill.
Recognized for bipartisan relationship-building, international advocacy, and people-centered leadership in complex operational environments, Boyajian organized and led coalitions that contributed to the passage and reauthorization of the Global Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act and the creation of the G7’s Transnational Repression Resilience and Response Framework. She has testified before the US Congress, the Canadian Parliament, and Taiwan’s Legislative Yuan and has provided interviews and commentary for outlets including BBC World, C-SPAN’s Washington Journal, Deutsche Welle, Reuters, The Economist, Fox News, The Globe and Mail, The Diplomat, and The Hill.
She is a member of the Mark Palmer Prize Committee, a former term member of the Council on Foreign Relations, a former board member of the Hong Kong Democracy Council, and a former member of the Partnership for a Secure America’s Congressional Partnership Program.
She holds a master’s degree in International Affairs: US Foreign Policy from American University’s School of International Service.
