This summer, Feifei will spend eight weeks interning at the International Foundation for Y-PEER Development, where she will work on two projects designed to empower young migrants and refugees. The work will focus on gender equity. The first project, “Promotion of mobility for young refugees in Europe,” aims to encourage young refugees to participate in mobility programs (training courses, volunteering, internships, and exchanges). The European Union funds these opportunities. She will seek to empower young migrant women to participate in European opportunities by (1) incorporating images and stories through which they recognize themselves in the disseminated materials; (2) sharing these tools with NGOs currently working with young refugees and migrants with a focus on gender equity. The second project is a training course called “We Are All Storytellers.” This project aims to increase the competencies of NGO staff and volunteers from eight European countries. She will work with them on storytelling and public narrative techniques to design and implement outreach programs for young people from underprivileged backgrounds, including young migrants and refugees. Topics will include human rights, active citizenship, and youth involvement. The training will focus on how young people can meaningfully participate in decision-making processes and engage in the broader civic sphere. Feifei also plans to mentor female migrant youth directly and empower young migrant women to share their stories and to believe in the power of their voices and experiences.
