Giulia Ferrero
CID PhD Fellow

I am a PhD student at the University of Turin and a PhD fellow at Collegio Carlo Alberto, visiting the Harvard Center for International Development. My research examines how narratives are shaped in response to historical and contemporary events, with a particular focus on state-led narratives and their influence on social norms. I study how such narratives affect the design of inclusive policy interventions and how top-down messaging can generate risks in fragile institutional environments. Using archival media sources, I contribute to our understanding of the origins of narratives, investigating how media representations are manipulated to address specific ideologies, interests, and policy goals. I specifically focus on societal and cultural norms around women, particularly in response to historical and contemporary events, including conflicts. Before starting the PhD, I worked at the European Central Bank. I hold an MSc in economics from the University of Bologna.
