Dr Katharine A.M. Wright is Senior Lecturer in International Politics at Newcastle University, UK. Her research focuses on the United Nations Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda, with particular expertise in how military and defence institutions - especially NATO - engage with this framework. She explores the tensions and opportunities that arise when such institutions take up what was originally conceived as a feminist peace agenda.
As a Fulbright Scholar and Research Fellow at the Women and Public Policy Program at Harvard Kennedy School, she will undertake a comparative study of how the WPS agenda is interpreted and implemented by defence institutions in the US and UK.
Dr Wright has extensive experience bridging research, policy, and civil society communities. Her work has informed NATO, national militaries, governments, and NGOs through workshops and briefings. She was nominated by the UK Government to serve on the NATO Civil Society Advisory Panel on WPS, where she contributes as a member of the Steering Committee. She has also acted as a media commentator, providing expert analysis in interviews for major outlets including BBC News, ABC News, and Al Jazeera.
