
Lina Malagon Diaz is a Senior Lecturer in Gender and Politics at the University of the Wales of England (UWE). Her career has balanced academic scholarship with work as a researcher, litigant and developing advocacy in conflict-affected and post-conflict countries. Lina has developed interdisciplinary academic research and worked as a senior practitioner in the fields of transitional justice, human rights, gender, peacebuilding and the construction of public policy in Colombia and other Latin American, European and African countries. At the Carr Center for Human Rights Policy, her research focuses on the effectiveness of mechanisms of reparation for victims of armed conflict at the local level, victim participation and victims as key justice actors.
Lina has been a consultant of the International Labour Organisation and international civil society organisations for more than 15 years. In 2016, Lina was the Deputy Director of the High Commissioner for the Rights of Victims, Peace and Reconciliation of the Mayor's Office of Bogotá, Colombia, and for five years, the Director of International Advocacy at the Colombian NGO, the Colombian Commission of Jurists. Currently, Lina is the Director of the Marine Justice and International Law Research Team at the Colombian organisation, the Observatory for Marine and Coastal Governance.
Lina is a Colombian human rights lawyer and holds a PhD in International Relations from the University of St Andrews, UK.
