Nicolás Albertoni is a scholar, policymaker, and foreign affairs expert whose work focuses on democratic governance, international political economy, economic development, and U.S.-Latin America relations. He served as Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay from 2022 to 2025, where he played a leading role in advancing the country’s human rights, international cooperation, trade, and democratic governance agendas. During his tenure, he represented Uruguay before major United Nations mechanisms, including the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) and the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD), while helping shape Uruguay’s engagement with multilateral institutions and regional partners.
Fellowship Project: Rebuilding Hemispheric Trust: Economic Cooperation, Fundamental Rights, and Democratic Governance in U.S.–Latin America Relations
This project examines how the United States and Latin America can rebuild a strategic partnership grounded in democratic governance, economic cooperation, and fundamental rights. While hemispheric relations have increasingly been shaped by crises—migration, security challenges, or responses to authoritarian governments—the region lacks a long-term framework capable of connecting economic opportunity with institutional resilience.
