The application deadlines have passed for fall 2020 admission to the PhD in Political Economy & Government (PEG) Program and the PhD in Public Policy (PPOL) Program. Decisions will be released in spring 2020.
Applications to the PEG and PPOL PhD programs are managed by Harvard’s Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS). You must submit your admissions materials directly to the GSAS Office of Admissions—not Harvard Kennedy School—to be considered for the program. Admissions decisions are sent out in mid-March.
We receive applications from PEG and PPOL candidates with a wide spectrum of backgrounds and experiences, but all show interest in research and promise for distinguished careers.
We review all submitted applications, but focus on applicants with demonstrated ability and motivation to pursue research who have exceptional:
- Academic records
- Test scores
- Letters of recommendation
- Quantitative skills
If you are applying to the PEG, you will need to choose an academic track—either economics or political science. If you are admitted to one track, you are not permitted to change tracks.
There isn’t a need for you to name your faculty advisor in your application. You will be assigned to one after you are admitted to our programs.
Deferrals are not common but are granted on a case-by-case basis.
