The HKS Alumni Board includes 16 elected members, 4 appointed members, and 2 appointed HKS liaisons to the Harvard Alumni Association (HAA). Elections for the 2026 cycle have concluded, and the appointment process for the 4 appointed members is currently underway. The next election cycle begins in January 2028. Details for both elections and appointments are outlined below. For questions, contact HKS Alumni Relations. 

Board Elections

Election to the HKS Alumni Board follows a four-step process, beginning with self-nominations. The 2026 election cycle has concluded, and the next cycle will open in early 2028. The Nominating Committee, in partnership with the HKS Alumni Relations team, administers the process.

Step 1: Self-nominations; Step 2: First-round review; Step 3: Interviews; Step 4: Elections

 

 

 

 

Step 1: Self-nominations

  • Self-nominations will be open for one month.
  • All HKS alumni, both degree-program and professional learning, are eligible to self-nominate for the Board.
  • Only self-nominations are accepted. We do not accept recommendations of other alumni.

Step 2: First-round Review

  • The Nominating Committee, within the HKS Alumni Board, will review all self-nominations and determine which candidates will move on to the interview round.

Step 3: Interviews 

  • The Alumni Relations Team will inform candidates whether they have made it to the interview round.
  • Candidates who make it to the interview round will be contacted by a member of the Nominating Committee to set up a time for a virtual interview.

Step 4: Elections 

  • After all interviews, the Nominating Committee and the HKS Alumni Relations team will select 12 candidates for the voting slate.
  • The HKS alumni community will be invited to vote on eight of the 12 candidates to join the Board. During this time, candidates may network and campaign for themselves among their peers.
  • The eight candidates with the highest number of votes will serve as new Board members whose four-year terms will begin July 1 of that election year.

Board Appointments

The appointment process for the 4 positions is underway and will continue through June 2026:

  • The HKS Alumni Relations team and the Nominating Committee invite key HKS network, SIG, and HAA volunteers to submit nominations online.
  • Candidate nominations must be submitted by fellow HKS alumni; self-nominations will not be accepted.
  • The Nominating Committee and HKS Alumni Relations team screen candidates and interview prospective appointees.
  • The Nominating Committee recommends up to 8 candidates to the Executive Committee.
  • The Executive Committee selects 4 finalists for HKS Alumni Board approval.
  • The 4 appointees are confirmed, and their terms begin July 1, 2026.
