HKS degree-program and executive education alumni are represented by a Board that comprises 20 volunteer members who work to strengthen connections among HKS alumni across the globe by supporting alumni, current students, and the School.

Members, who meet twice a year in Cambridge, serve four-year terms. The Board is made up of several working committees that typically focus on alumni networks, alumni connections, professional development, public service, and biannual Board elections. These committees work on initiatives that will help alumni connect with each other and with the School; they also help alumni expand their professional networks. All Board members are expected to join at least one committee, which requires an additional time commitment outside of the two annual Board meetings.

Members of the Board must have been in good academic standing and be free from any financial indebtedness to Harvard Kennedy School.

Examples of current Board initiatives include:

Alumni Awards

  • The Alumni Connections Committee manages the Alumni Awards by gathering nominations for all awards, reviewing each nomination and determining the winners. This process occurs every year between November and May.

Global Alumni Summit

  • The Regional Networks and Shared Interest Groups (SIGs) Committee works with the Office of Alumni Relations to plan a full day for leaders of Regional Networks and SIGs to share¬†ideas and to network¬†on the HKS campus in May.
