A message from Dean Douglas Elmendorf

Dear Members of the Kennedy School Community,

As we begin to feel hope in Cambridge that vaccinations are bringing us back toward our pre-pandemic lives, people in many parts of the world continue to suffer terribly. Our relief about the progress being made in some locations must be tempered by compassion for the human losses that are occurring in other places on an almost unimaginably awful scale.

My heart goes out to people in India, Brazil, and other countries where COVID-19 continues to take a horrible toll. Some of you are living in those countries now, and many others undoubtedly have friends and family members in those countries; I fervently hope that you and your loved ones can remain safe and healthy.

Last week, the students of the HKS India Caucus projected a simple yet moving display of solidarity on the wall of the School, and I have included an image of it below. May we all stand with India. May we all stand with Brazil. And may we all stand with everyone who is enduring the continued tragedy of the pandemic.

Stand with India
