CAMBRIDGE, MA – Harvard Kennedy School today announced the establishment of a new fund to provide executive education training for government employees in Croatia. The fund is supported by a gift from the Vallum Foundation, a family foundation whose mission is to promote social welfare by supporting education and health care.
"We are grateful to the Luksic family, through their foundation, for making this important contribution to expand the knowledge and effectiveness of government employees in Croatia,” said Debra Iles, senior associate dean for executive education at the Kennedy School. “The training they will receive through the Kennedy School will address essential areas of need identified by the government and open opportunities for professional growth.”
Following consultations with the Office of the Prime Minister of Croatia, the Kennedy School is designing courses to focus on public sector capacity building, including digital transformation in health care services. The inaugural course—which will run from January 21-23, 2019, at the National School of Public Administration in Zagreb—will bring Kennedy School faculty together with frontline policymakers and practitioners to identify solutions for the most pressing issues.
Each year, the State and Public Civil Servants of Croatia Executive Education Fund will support educational activities for 35-40 participants from across Croatia’s government. The inaugural course will be chaired by Harvard Kennedy School faculty members David Eaves, faculty director of digital HKS and lecturer in public policy, and Matthew Andrews, the Edward S. Mason senior lecturer in international development.
“Public policy challenges have become more complex, calling for new policy design and implementation strategies,” Andrews said. “This program will introduce participants to a range of new strategies, especially those addressing the challenges of technology reforms in the health care sector. The goal is to help build the capabilities of Croatian policymakers and implementers as they seek to design and launch new and stronger mechanisms in their country’s health care sector.”
