A message from Dean Jeremy M. Weinstein
Dear HKS Community,
I’m proud to share HKS 2036, our vision for the future of Harvard Kennedy School.
Ninety years ago, our school was founded with a simple mandate: to train leaders who could solve the problems of the day. Over decades, that central charge has remained the same, but we have always evolved to meet the challenges of the moment.
We are now living through another key inflection point. From a loss of trust in government to deep polarization to technological upheaval, the challenges of government and governance have never been more urgent.
Over the past 18 months, through the vision and strategy process, we have convened faculty, staff, students, alumni, and partners to explore what comes next. HKS 2036 is our answer.
This vision is built on three strategic directions we will pursue as one HKS community: investing in our strong foundation, delivering on four imperatives for the future, and engaging our 30,000+ degree program graduates and 50,000+ executive education alumni as a force for impact in the world.
To learn more, I encourage you to visit the HKS 2036 website and read the full HKS 2036 report. In it, you’ll find a clear statement of the challenges we now confront, a refined mission statement, eight goals for the next decade, and a set of initial steps we plan to pursue.
This vision belongs to all of us — and it reflects the ideas, ambitions, and values that we heard from all of you. This is precisely the moment Harvard Kennedy School was built for, and together, I know that we are ready to meet it.
Best,
Jeremy
