Leemore Dafny, professor of public policy at Harvard Kennedy School and Bruce V. Rauner Professor of Business Administration at Harvard Business School, has been elected as a member of the National Academy of Medicine, one of the most prestigious honors in the medical and public health fields.

The Academy announced on Monday that Dafny was among 90 regular members and 10 international members elected during its annual meeting. She was cited by the academy for “her path-breaking work in illuminating where health care markets succeed and fail, including powerful insights regarding market consolidation, strategic decisions of market participants, and policy solutions to market failures.”

Dafny’s research focuses on competitive interactions between payers and providers of healthcare services, with an emphasis on antitrust, competitive strategy, and public policy. She also studies competition in pharmaceutical markets. Her research on competition in health care regularly appears in leading journals, and she has testified and provided advice to government agencies and congressional committees at the highest levels.
