Soroush Saghafian, associate professor of public policy, has received the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS) MSOM Society's 2021 Young Scholar Prize.

INFORMS is the leading international association for Operations Research & Analytics professionals. The Young Scholars Prize recognizes exceptional researchers age 40 or under who have made outstanding contributions to scholarship in operations management.

Saghafian is the founder and director of the Public Impact Analytics Science Lab (PIAS-Lab) at Harvard University. He also serves as a faculty affiliate for the Harvard PhD Program in Health Policy, the Harvard Center for Health Decision Science, the Mossavar-Rahmani Center for Business and Government (M-RCBG), the Harvard Data Science Initiative, and is an associate faculty member at Harvard Ariadne Labs (Health Systems Innovation).

His current research focuses on operations research methods and stochastic systems with specific applications in healthcare and operations management. Saghafian teaches courses on machine learning and related analytical tools for solving societal problems. He collaborates with a variety of hospitals to improve their operational efficiency, patient flow, medical decision making, and more broadly, health care delivery policies.
