Traditionally when applying for loans or employment opportunities, banks and companies use algorithms that determine reliability through credit scores and criminal background checks. Technology and Human Rights Fellows Laurin Leonard & Teresa Hodge explain that using these narrow factors often lock individuals in a cycle that hinders upward mobility. In a recent interview with the Harvard Kennedy School, Hodge and Leonard discuss the development of their own algorithm that presents a more holistic view of a job and loan candidate.
