Dejan Kovač
Dejan is a Postdoctoral Fellow at CID. Dejan was a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Princeton School of Public & International Affairs and Halle Institute for Economic Research (IWH) – Member of the Leibniz Association. Dejan is particularly interested in the detrimental effects of wars and conflicts on a variety of outcomes: child development, human capital accumulation, health, social values and norms.
His past and current research is focused on solving important policy questions in cooperation with several governmental agencies in Croatia including the Ministry of Science and Education, Ministry of Veterans, Ministry of Health and Agency for Science and Higher Education. These projects include effects of school starting-age policy on education outcomes, effects of paternal mortality on long-run education outcomes, work on efficiency in centralised college admission platforms, and neighbour peer effects on college choices.
Dejan also worked as a consultant at the World Bank on topics of forced displacement of refugees in Croatia and Bosnia.
During his fellowship at CID he will focus on education research in Croatia to increase understanding of migration processes by shedding light on human capital development in origin countries and what role peer effects play in the post-migration period.
