This article discusses the importance of embedding research within public sector programs to improve policymaking and service delivery. Through examples drawn from studies on government health insurance take-up in Indonesia, the transition from in-kind transfers to food stamps, and interventions addressing worker absenteeism in India, the author highlights the value of collaboration between researchers and government practitioners for producing policy-relevant evidence.
