“If They Were Telling Us to Go, We Will Go”: Factors Associated with Effective Postnatal Care Coverage Before and After Discharge – A Mixed-Methods Study in Rural Western Kenya

This mixed-methods study examines factors influencing effective postnatal care coverage among mothers in rural western Kenya, both before and after facility discharge. Combining quantitative and qualitative approaches, the authors identify the importance of provider communication, discharge counseling, accessibility of services, and community trust in shaping postnatal care utilization. The findings highlight barriers to continuity of maternal and newborn care and suggest strategies for strengthening postnatal service delivery in low-resource settings.
