‘Time Capsule’ Archiving through Strong Dark Archives (SDA): Designing Trustable Distributed Archives for Sensitive Materials

This article introduces the concept of “Strong Dark Archives” (SDA), a distributed archival framework designed to securely preserve sensitive digital materials while limiting unauthorized access. The authors explore how trust, privacy, cryptography, and institutional governance can be combined to create durable archival systems capable of safeguarding vulnerable records over long periods of time. The paper examines the technical and ethical challenges of preserving sensitive materials in a digital era and proposes design principles for resilient, trustworthy archival infrastructures.
