Cambridge, MA: The Center for Public Leadership (CPL) at Harvard Kennedy School (HKS) is pleased to announce LaTosha Brown as a 2020 Hauser Leader.Brown is an award-winning organizer who co-founded Black Voters Matter Fund (BVMF) in 2016 to boost Black voter registration and turnout; in 2018, Brown and BVMF launched the Capacity Building Institute to increase power in marginalized, predominantly Black communities.

During her tenure at CPL, which started in full force this summer and will continue through the upcoming academic year, Brown will contribute as an active member to CPL’s community of scholarship and learning. She launched her Hauser Leader appointment by leading the HKS Summer Teach-in, a virtual learning program inspiring Harvard community members, to gain new insights and perspectives on race in America. She will continue working with students and faculty to interrogate and explore our collective responsibility to advance social justice and political empowerment. “Harvard Kennedy School has benefitted tremendously from LaTosha Brown’s thought leadership and moral clarity since she joined the community last year. In the year to come, her decades-long commitment to organizing for social justice will be the grounding force behind her work at CPL,” said Wendy R. Sherman, CPL director and a professor of the practice of public leadership at Harvard Kennedy School. “More than ever, our community is poised to listen, learn, and act in the name of equity and justice; LaTosha has proven a vital teacher and leader in that process."

Brown is also a fall, 2020 Leader in Practice at Harvard Kennedy School’s Women and Public Policy Program, a 2020-2021 American Democracy fellow at the Charles Warren Center at Harvard University, and was a fall 2019 fellow at Harvard’s Institute of Politics.
