November 27, 2023, Opinion: "James Mwangi, CEO of Equity Group Holdings, comes from humble beginnings in Kenya - so humble that when he was 14 years old, he did not even own a pair of shoes. What he did have was a very devoted and determined mother. "She was bold in her decisions," he recalled on my podcast Deep Purpose. At the age of 38, his father died in the Mau Mau conflict, during Kenya's war for independence from Britain. His mother was barely able to make ends meet, and James and his siblings helped out by raising livestock and selling things like charcoal and fruit."
