He is a leading political scientist recognized by the Skytte Prize — the world’s highest accolade for a political scientist. In 2013, President Barack Obama awarded him the National Humanities Medal. His books have been translated into twenty languages. Alumni of his small “Community in America” seminar at Harvard have gone on to distinguished careers in civil service and public life.
