Through this internship, she hopes to explore how immunization is collected in Malaysia and identify potential gender biases in this collection, with the broader goal of ensuring gender health equity in the digital health data space.

 Katie Chen (MPA/ID '25) joins the Centre for Social and Behavioral Change in India as a Graduate Research Fellow, focusing on gender-related evaluation in Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand. She will be evaluating the impact of several interventions around female empowerment, including the distribution of internet-enabled smartphones for rural women in Uttar Pradesh, a "smart skills" training program, and digital entrepreneurship training.

Katherine Gutierrez (MPA/ID '25) will intern as an associate at Clinton Health Access Initiative Cambodia to work on the prevention and care strategy for non-communicable diseases (NCDs), a top priority for the Cambodian government. She will contribute to developing an "investment case" for NCD prevention and care services, assessing health facilities, creating a case studies series, and mapping global recommendations for national policy.

Flora Zhou (SM ‘25 HSPH) will intern at the Federal University of Ceara in Fortaleza, Brazil. She is engaged in the Iracema-COVID cohort study, addressing mental health needs of women who were pregnant and gave birth during the pandemic lockdown. For this internship, Flora aims to bridge the evidence gap regarding perinatal depression and its consequent impact on child health outcomes, which is crucial for informing families, healthcare practitioners, and policymakers.

Anna Gifty Opoku-Agyeman (PhD Candidate HKS) will work on her experiment on diversity framing and its impact on talent recommendations. In the wake of the US Supreme Court ruling that the use of race in college admissions is unconstitutional, firms and organizations that want to commit to DEI efforts must think strategically about how to signal a demand for diversity without compromising themselves legally. While there is existing work on diversity cues influencing who applies to opportunities, little is known about how diversity cues influence who recommends talent. Anna's experimental design tests how differential framing of diversity influences who decision-makers recommend for a summer internship opportunity. After piloting these experiments on Prolific, an online platform where individuals are hired to complete tasks, she hopes to conduct larger field experiments in an online or real-world setting.

Gabriella Fleischman (PhD Candidate HKS) will intern with Invest in Knowledge in Lilongwe, Malawi. Gabriella will be conducting a randomized controlled trial to understand the causes and consequences of social isolation among vulnerable women in Malawi. In 71 percent of societies worldwide, women move to the area where their husbands and their kin live at the time of marriage. For her dissertation research, Gabriella seeks to evaluate how women’s ability to enter social networks after moving to a new village for marriage affects their mental health and integration into social and financial networks in rural Malawi villages.

Internship: Lucker Fellow

Tai Miller (MD/MPP ‘25) will spend the summer at the University of California, San Francisco and Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Tai will be working with the plastic and reconstructive surgery teams, assisting the team in day-to-day tasks. He is excited to participate in gender-affirming surgical cases, where he will advance his skills and knowledge providing surgical care to transgender and gender-diverse people. In addition, he will spend the summer researching gender-affirming surgery access barriers and outcomes.

Alice will intern with Community Food Advocates in New York City and partner with the Women's Housing and Economic Development Corporation to bring full-scale supermarkets to urban food deserts. Alice will help research supermarket access in NYC and identify a comprehensive approach that is WIC-approved and addresses the drivers of female food insecurity. She will also assist in drafting policy proposals to launch this project.
